Welcome to Art and Design

  Department Vision and Aims:

• To provide a rich and varied Art and Design educational experience for all students based on the principles of the N.I Curriculum;
• To enrich each student’s sensory, artistic and creative awareness;
• To develop skills of observation, imagination, independent thought and evaluation;
• To make students aware of the relationship between their own work and that of artists, designers and craft workers, locally and globally;
• To stimulate curiosity about the world around us through active and challenging learning experiences which emphasise individual success and high expectations;
• To encourage students to reach their full potential through Art and Design in a supportive and creative learning environment.

We are very proud of our students’ achievements and celebrate this with an annual ’End of Year Show,’ an exhibition comprising of all GCSE and A Level work. 

Courses Offered

Students who choose to study Art and Design at GCSE, AS and A2 level follow the N.I CCEA Specification.  Each specification can be viewed at the following link;  Exam Board: CCEA, Syllabus Link.

Progression Routes

Students who have studied Art and Design at Slemish have had sucess in a variety of careers.  Past pupils have secured posts in a variety of discplines including; Architecture, Product Design, Art Teaching, Animation, Fashion Design, Fashion Buying, Visual Merchandising, Hairdressing, Graphic Design, Textile Design and Art Therapy to name but a few.
