Media is a popular GCSE and A level option offering a combination of theoretical and practical approaches to learning. Students studying the Media are given the opportunity to explore controversial contemporary issues such as ‘Teenage magazines and Anorexia’ or ‘Urban music and gang-related violence’. The main objectives are to:
- Develop analytical, and investigative skill
- Understand how and why media texts are produced
- Approach the media critically and objectively
- Develop creative abilities in a range of productions including Desktop publishing, film production and photography.
There are three dynamic and passionate teachers in the Media Studies Department:

- Mrs Collins
- Miss Esler
Routes for progression:
The courses are suitable for those who have an interest in any aspect of media and communication and we nurture the creative genius of budding film-makers, marketeers or those who wish to work in the news industry. Former students have pursued University courses in PR, Advertising and Marketing, Film Studies, Journalism and Multi-Media Production.
