Slemish College is at the forefront of modern teaching methods and fully implements the Mind Friendly Learning Framework which combines and integrates significant current research and consensus about the brain and learning how learners learn most effectively.
The focus is very much on the process of learning rather than the content of the activity. There are currently 8 steps involved in the Mind Friendly Learning Framework: Click here to download the Flash Presentation
"The brain has a number of intelligence centres, the key to effective learning lies in unlocking these centres." — Howard Gardner
Since Slemish College opened in September 1996 a strong emphasis has been put on using ICT to enhance learning. Every teacher in the College is provided with a laptop to create interactive lessons, to complement this teachers can connect their laptop to a projector in the classroom and broadcast the presentation to the whole class.
The College also has five interactive whiteboards that are used for interactive electronic lessons. Every subject within the College has it's own mini ICT suite that contains at least six computers.
Slemish College now employ a web developer to create interactive lessons based on various curriculum material. These lessons are then uploaded to our Online Learning System where they can be accessed by both students and teachers. They can be used in class as part of a lesson or accessed by students independently at their own leisure.
