Slemish College

Learning together for individual Success

Integrated Education

Integrated Education can be described as bringing together one school of students, staff and governors in roughly equal proportion from Catholic, Protestant, Other faith and non faith backgrounds.

The first integrated college was established in 1971 by All Children Together (ACT). This was a small but committed group of parents in Co Down who believed if the deep wounds of sectarianism in this country were to be healed that children of all religions and no religion should be educated together.

Currently, there are 61 Integrated Schools in Northern Ireland, 20 of which are secondary schools. Slemish College was founded in 1996 by parents who desired a second level college for their children. It started with 84 students, 7 teachers and 2 support staff. The College is now one of the most oversubscribed schools in Northern Ireland attracting students from all parts of the community.

We welcome students of all traditions and all abilities to learn together in a caring school environment. Our vision statement is ‘Learning Together for Individual Success.’
